James: The Elusive Isolation Podcast

As part of my Jimmerish FM project I'm going to begin a fortnightly audio podcast that will hopefully become a significant part of this forum.

It will comprise mainly of round table discussions about the Perth Art scene and wherever that leads. I will be looking out for a diverse range of Perth artists to take part.

The first recording will be held on November 14th at 1pm.

How to comment on Elusive Isolation

Are you having trouble commenting on posts? I've put together a quick and dirty video tutorial for you to watch and help you out. Why must you register to comment? We value discussion on this blog more highly than the blog posts themselves. Registering to comment allows other commenters to follow your thoughts throughout this project and many other websites outside of blogger who use this system. We can't allow anonymous commenters because they are not accountable for what they say and that doesn't help the dialogue at all.

Remember, if you would still rather use your Blogger login details you can by using Open ID.  All you have to do is go here and type in your blogspot address eg: yourblogname.blogspot.com then blogger will ask you to authorize it.  From then on, look out for the Open ID log in option nearby whenever you go to make a comment.  If you are already logged into Blogger all you have to type in is your blogspot address!

You could start your EI commenting career simply by commenting on this post and ask any questions you might have of the different aspects of the commenting system. How to download videos from Vimeo

If you would like to download one of our videos from Vimeo to keep or put on your iPod/iPhone, you must have a Vimeo account. Go here to create an account if you don't have one. Once you have an account and you have logged in, go to the video's page. If you look in the bottom right hand corner of the page you'll see a link to download the original file.

It means you have not logged in.

EI Style Guide

Hey, I'm starting this post to develop a style guide for EI.

But I don't have to time to finish it just yet, but it's here.

Comments Upgrade!

Ok, I think the comments system is actually working a little better these days. We should be able to see how many comments have been made on new posts. Also, they are now embedded in the main page with fancy new technology. You no longer have to go to the post's specific page to comment. Hopefully it works in your browsers.

I suggest having the latest versions of Safari and/or Firefox.

The Concept

The idea for this blog is to be some kind of Hub, where Perth based creatives post things they recommend, have done, are doing, want to do or were inspired by. It will hopefully help create a strong peer group.

It's like an encyclopedia, its not a primary resource. This is not meant to replace an artist's personal blog or website. It's a secondary resource where people can pitch their ideas or share information and link to a primary resource. Linking is really important, this is how people exploring this blog can find other stuff on the internet that they might like. Posting information as text (rather than just an image) helps people find this site via google. Posting links to a google map for a location helps people find where to go etc etc. Inform your readers! Show the people of Perth where they can find the much fabled "culture".

I will try and begin this blog by getting my artistic peers to be authors, then hopefully they will want to invite their own Perth based artistic peers to be part of it, and so on and so on.

This idea has been tried before and failed, and this attempt probably will as well, but I'm going to try it my way and see what happens.

There is no particular theme to this blog, except for the fact that everyone is Perth based. Musicians, dancers, painters, writers, filmmakers etc, I'll be trying to get them all on board.

Discussion is the most important aim here. The site is presented as blog, but it's really a forum. Discussion is what will make EI unique among its own peers. Creating a dynamic environment where people can discuss, argue and give feedback about the local Perth creative scene is critical to EI's success.

I'm experimenting with a new commenting system that will hopefully help build a community around this website. Using this system, discussions don't have to be lost after a blog post leaves the main page and if other local art blogs sign up and use the same system, you'll be able to track the words of wisdom of your favorite commentators over a number of websites. So sign up now to comment! You can even use your OpenID.
